NGC7293 (Helix Nebula) Gallery

With a distance of less than 700 light years from earth NGC7293 represents the nearest planetary nebuly.

The structures in the nebula are associated with gas that was ejected during different phases of the central star's death over the last 20,000 years.

The inner ring of the nebula contains several comentary knots each of them much larger than our solar system. It is believed that these structures are formed by collisions of different gas fronts.
