M 106
M106 was discovered by Pierre Méchain – Charles Messier probably had never seen this galaxy, which was added to his catalogue in 1948.
M106 is an amazing large spiral galaxy of type SAb, about 25.7 million light-years away. It is an active Seyfert galaxy. Some more NGC galaxies are visible in the neighborhood of M106 – the elongated object northwest of M106 is NGC 4248.
