The image is composed of 48 panels captured over eight years at locations around the world. A Nikon D5100a was used, mostly in combination with a Tamron 17–35mm OSD lens at a focal length of 24 mm. Each panel consists of about 30 images, each with an exposure time of 120–180 seconds. Image processing was carried out using PixInsight, RegiStar, and Adobe Photoshop. The acquisition and creation of the mosaic were described in a two-part article published in the magazine Astronomie – Das Magazin, issues 57 and 58.
